「リトル・チャロ」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。

Charo, who is Sirius?
チャロ シリウスって一体誰なの？
I met him before, when I was lost here in New York.
He used to be a police dog. He's really smart. I’m sure he will help us.
僕がニューヨークで 迷子になったとき 知り合ったんだ
元は警察犬で― すごく頭がよくて― とっても便りになるんだ
Sirius is now a watchdog at a bookstore.
シリウスは 今は書店の番犬をしています
Sirius.
シリウス！
Hey. Charo. What are you doing here?
チャロじゃないか！ どうしてお前がここに？
Well, you see. I’m shooting a movie in Central Park.
実はね セントラルパークで 映画を撮ってて…
Charo tells Sirius all that has happened.
チャロは シリウスに これまでのいきさつを話しました
Rigel, sounds like something he’d do.
You know, he knows hypnosis.
リゲルか… ヤツなら やりかねないな
ヤツは 催眠術が使えるんだ
I knew it.
やっぱり！
Sirius, how do you know Rigel?
シリウスは 何でそんなこと知ってるの？
I know him from my days as a police dog.
I guess you could say we were rivals.
ヤツとは 警察犬だったころからの付き合いだ
俺たちはライバルだったんだ
Rivals? So Rigel was a police dog, too?
ライバル？ じゃあリゲルも警察犬だったの？
Yes. He and I were both always trying to be top dog.
There was a reason Rigel to be number one.
ああ リゲルと俺は いつもトップを争っていた
リゲルには トップを目指す理由があった
A reason?
理由？
Well, I heard his trainer talking to Rigel one day.
ある日 トレーナーがリゲルに話すのを聞いたんだ…
Rigel, I'll let you see your owner as soon
as you are the number one police dog in New York.
You just have to work harder.
ニューヨークで一番の警察犬になったら 飼い主に会わせてやるぞ
だから もっとがんばるんだ
I will.
よし やるぞ！
Rigel had been taken from his owner
to be trained as a police dog.
He loved his owner, so he worked really hard
in order to see his owner again.
リゲルは 大好きな飼い主から離され 訓練を受けていた
だから 飼い主に会うために 血のにじむような努力をしていたんだ
Soon he was among the best of the best in New York.
It was then that he somehow gained this strange power.
やがて ヤツは 俺とトップを争う警察犬になった
そのころだ ヤツが 不思議な力を 身に付けたのは…
Hypnosis.
催眠術ね！
Sirius, who was Rigel’s owner?
シリウス リゲルの飼い主はどんな人だった？
I don’t really know.
But I know that Rigel’s name was not Rigel.
I think his owner called him. Gen.
俺も詳しくは知らないんだ ただ前は リゲルという名前ではなかった
確か… ゲンという名前だった
Gen?!
ゲン?!
What is it, Charo?
どうしたの チャロ？
Yoko said she used to own a dog. His name was Gen.
ヨーコが言ってたんだ 昔 ゲンという犬を飼っていたって
Oh. That’s right.
そうだったわね！
Sirius. Do you know where Rigel is now?
シリウス リゲルが今どこにいるか 知らない？
Probably Penn station.
That is where he said goodbye to his owner.
きっとペンシルベニア駅だ 飼い主と別れた場所だと言っていた
He used to go there whenever he could.
He would just sit there all day, waiting.
昔から少しでも暇があると そこで一日中座って 待っていたんだ
Thank you. Sirius. We’ll go see.
ありがとう シリウス 行ってみるよ
Charo and Tonko run toward Penn Station.
チャロとトンコは ペンシルベニア駅へと急ぎます
Charo.
チャロ！
Nestor.
ネストル！
I have done the research.
It seems Rigel was Yoko’s dog. And his name was Gen.
調べてきた リゲルは もともとヨーコの飼い犬で そのころの名前はゲンだ
Just like I guessed.
思ったとおりだ
And I found an interesting story about them.
しかも 興味深い事件があった

事件？
A thief was threatening Yoko with a knife.
Unafraid, Gen bit the thief’s hand.
The thief ran away, but Gen got cut on his left ear.
ある日 ヨーコが ナイフを持った強盗に襲われた
そのとき ゲンはひるまずにかみついた 強盗は逃げたが―
ゲンは左耳に傷を負った
Gen got cut?
傷を負った？
Yes. He was very brave. The story was in the newspaper.
ああ ゲンの勇気ある行動は 当時の新聞にも載った
But why would Gen use hypnosis on Yoko?

Charo, Tonko, and Nestor arrive at Penn station.

いた！ あそこよ

Sirius told me.

Rigel, did you use hypnosis on Yoko?
Please. She won't wake up.
リゲルがヨーコに 催眠術をかけたの？
ヨーコが目を覚まさないんだ
What are you talking about?
何のことだ？
Don’t play dump.
Yoko used to have a puppy named Gen.
Gen ..is you. We looked it up.
とぼけないで ヨーコは昔 ゲンという子犬を飼っていた
それは あなたのことでしょ！ 調べさせてもらったわ！
Well, I looked it up.
調べたのは僕だ
Whatever. That’s not the point.
うるさいわね どうだっていいでしょ
Rigel, don’t you love Yoko anymore?
リゲル もうヨーコのことを愛してないの？
Yoko lied to me. She betrayed me.
ヨーコは俺に ウソをついた 俺を裏切ったんだ
Betrayed you?
裏切った？
It was five years ago.
We said goodbye right here in this station.
That’s when she said.
５年前 俺とヨーコは まさにこの場所で別れた
そのとき ヨーコは言った…
Hang in there. I will come for you someday.
必ず迎えに来るから がんばってね
Then, one day, When I was out on patrol, I saw her.
I was so happy, I ran up to her. But she…
偶然ヨーコを見かけた 俺はうれしくて 駆け寄った ところが…
Yoko. It's you. Yoko.
ヨーコ！ ヨーコだろ！
Wha. Okay, okay, big dog.
わっ…?! 何…？ 大きな犬ね…
I missed you so much. Now you're finally here.
ずっと会いたかった！ やっと迎えに来てくれたんだね！
What? What is it?
え？ 何なの この犬？
I’m very sorry, miss.
Hey, Rigel. What are you doing?
申し訳ありません おい リゲル どうしたんだ？
Yoko. It's me. It's Gen.
ヨーコ！ 俺だよ ゲンだよ！
Down boy. Stop it. Come. Come boy.
リゲル よさないか！ 来い こっちへ来るんだ
Yoko…Yoko.
ヨーコ… ヨーコ!!
Yoko didn’t come back for me. She forgot me.
She lied to me. And I believed that lie.
ヨーコは 迎えになんて来なかった 俺は忘れられたんだ
別れ際の言葉は ウソだった 俺はずっと信じていたのに…
I decided I would get revenge.
だから俺は ヨーコに復しゅうすると決めた
Rigel, Yoko didn’t forget you.
She misses you and still wants to see you. She said so.
リゲル ヨーコは忘れてなんかいないよ
今でも寂しいって… 君に会いたいって言ってた
That’s a lie.
ウソだ！
No. it's the truth.
ウソじゃないよ
Rigel, you got cut behind your left ear. You still have the scar.
You got that when you saved Yoko, didn’t you?
リゲル あなたの耳の後ろの その傷は―
ヨーコを助けるときに 負ったものなんでしょ？

I looked that up, too.
それも僕が調べたのさ
Rigel, you loved Yoko. Don’t you remember?
リゲルはヨーコが好きだったんでしょ？ その気持ちは？
Leave me alone. Yoko betrayed me.
I can never trust her again.
放っておいてくれ！ 俺は裏切られたんだ！
もうヨーコなんて信じられない！
Rigel. It's not can. It's will.
リゲル… 「信じられるか」じゃなくて 「信じるか」だよ

The question is not whether you can trust Yoko,
it's whether you will trust her. It's your choice.
信じられるかどうかが 問題じゃない
大事なのは 信じるかどうかだ それは 自分が決めることだよ
Rigel, my owner is a boy named Shota.
He is far, far away, in Japan.
ねえリゲル 僕の飼い主は 翔太っていうんだ
今は遠く離れた日本にいるけど…

We're so far apart.
Sometimes I’m afraid. I think Shota has forgotten me.
もし翔太が僕のことを 忘れちゃったらどうしようって―不安になったこともある

To the hospital. Yoko is waiting for you.
病院だよ ヨーコが待っているよ
Then Rigel nods, or perhaps we should call him Gen.
チャロの言葉に リゲルは… ゲンは 小さくうなずくのでした
