前回に引き続き、「リトル・チャロ (2)」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。

あらすじ：これまでのリトル・チャロ
空港で迷子になった子犬のチャロ。
もう日本へは帰れない？ 途方に暮れるチャロに
ボクサー犬のドレッドが救いの手を差し伸べました。

The next morning,
Charo wakes up in a back alley.
翌朝 路地裏で目を覚ましたチャロ
No, he’s not in a dream.
夢ではありませんでした。
Just then something hits the ground right in front of Charo.
そのとき、何かがチャロの前に落ちてきました。
It's a bagel.
ベーグルでした。
Eat.
食え
What? You called me?
ん？ おれを呼んだのか？
Dread. My name is Dread.
トレッド 名前はドレッドだ
Dread... Thank you, Dread.
ドレッド… ありがとう ドレッド
Charo jumps right to the bagel and munches.
チャロはベーグルに飛びつき 食べ始めました
He hasn't eaten anything for such a long time.
とても長い間 何も食べていなかったのです
And you?
で おまえは？
What's your name?
名前だよ
Charo. I'm Charo.
チャロ ぼくチャロです
Charo, huh? Okay, Charo,
you feel strong enough to walk now?
チャロか よし
もう歩く元気は出たか

Rosa is the person who runs the restaurant.

Charo is struck by the charming way she looks.
チャロはその魅力的な容姿に見とれました。

待って 何か良いもの持ってきてあげる
She always does this, you know.

She's kind.

Rosa comes back from the kitchen
and tosses a sausage to Charo.
ローザが厨房から出てきて、ソーセージをチャロに投げます
You like it? I'm glad, baby. It's all yours.
A nice-to-meet-you gift.

What's the matter? You don't like sausage?

Charo brings his mouth to the sausage, but he can't see it well.
チャロは食べようとしますが よく見えません。

Suddenly Charo starts to cry.
突然 チャロは泣き声をあげました
Dread seems embarrassed.
困ってしまうドレッド
He isn't really good around sad, crying puppies.
悲しくて泣いている子犬は苦手なのです
Finally Charo sheds his last tear.
チャロは ようやく 泣きやみました
Feeling better?
気は晴れたか
Yes. Thank you.
うん ありがとう。
Then, eat.
なら 食え
But Charo just looks at the sausage.
それでもチャロはソーセージを見ています
He then takes it in his mouth,
walks over and drops it beside Dread.
そして口にくわえて歩き出し ドレッドの近くに落としました

At this moment, Charo realizes that somehow
being close to Dread makes him feel safe.

A loud voice echoes from inside the Italian restaurant.

Here comes the noisy one.
うるさいのが来たな

Margherita. She lives here, at the restaurant.
マルゲリータだ このレストランに住んでる
She's got a big mouth, and
she sticks her nose into everything.
おしゃべりで おせっかいな女だ
Margherita... Sounds like pizza.
マルゲリータ？ ピザみたい
Margherita comes out with a shopping basket
hanging around her neck.
マルゲリータが出てきました 買い物カゴをさげています。
She sees Dread.
ドレッドに気づくと…
Hey, Dread, I haven't seen you for quite a while.
How've you been?
あーら ドレッド 久しぶりじゃない
Oh don't act like that.
I thought we were friends, no?
やめてよ そういう態度
友だちでしょう？
Come on, why don't you give me
a nice smile and talk for a change?
