引き続き、「リトル・チャロ (3)」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。

あらすじ：これまでのリトル・チャロ
迷子になった日本の子犬、チャロ。
おしゃべりなマルゲリータやボクサー犬のドレッドに助けられ
ニューヨークでの生活が始まりました。

One day, Charo is walking by the park
and a ball flies right in front of him.
チャロが公園のそばを歩いていると 目の前にボールが飛んできました
He jumps for the ball and catches it.
飛び上がって ボールをつかまえます
At the same time, a charming little dog
comes out from the bushes.
そのとき 茂みの中から チャーミングな犬が出てきました
Hey! That's mine. Give it back.
ちょっと！ それ私のボールよ 返して
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to...
ごめんなさい そんなつもりじゃ
That's okay. Just give it back.
返してくれればいいの
Yes. Here.
うん どうぞ
Candy!
キャンディー！
The voice comes from beyond the bushes.
茂みの向こう側から 声がしました。
Arf, arf! I'm here!
ワン、ワン！ 私はここよ！
So your name is Candy.
きみ キャンディって言うんだ
Y...yes. And you?
そうよ あなたは？
Charo.
チャロ
Oh.
そう
Candy...that's a nice name.
キャンディ すてきな名前だね
I've never seen any dog...like you...in Japan.

Chris is calling. I'd better get going.
Thanks for catching the ball.
クリスが呼んでるわ 行かなくちゃ

Charo wants to say something,
but Candy has already run back.
チャロは何か言おうとしましたが キャンディはもう走り去っていました
He watches her jump cheerfully around Chris.
チャロは キャンディがクリスの周りを 楽しそうに跳ねているのを見ていました
A few days later, Charo has a dream,
数日後 チャロは夢を見ました
In the dream, he is explaining to somebody
how he met Shota.
夢の中で 翔太と出あった日のことを
誰かに説明していました
It was snowing that day.
I was so cold and hungry.
あの日は雪だった
とても寒くて お腹が空いていた
Shota came and found me.
翔太が通りかかって ぼくを見つけたんだ
かわいそうに…このままだと死んじゃう。
But Shota just went away. I was sad.
I thought I was dying.
でも翔太は行ってしまった 悲しかった
ぼくは もう 死ぬんだと思った
Then, Shota, again! With a sausage!
そしたら 翔太が戻ってきたんだ！ ソーセージを持って！
ふふふ…かわいいなぁ
Shota picked me up and took me home.
He wanted to keep me.
翔太は ぼくを抱き上げ 家に連れていき
ぼくを 飼おうとしてくれた
But Shota's father said no.
でも お父さんは 「だめだ」 って
ぼくがいないと、この子死んじゃうよ
Shota's father said nothing and went to his room.
お父さんは 黙って 部屋へ行ってしまった
But Shota didn't give up.
He held me and sat outside.
でも翔太はあきらめなかった
ぼくを抱いて家の外に座り込んだ
安心して 飼ってもらえるまでがんばるからね
Suppertime came but Shota stayed with me.
夕食の時間になっても 翔太は僕と一緒にいてくれた
Snow was falling.
After a while, Shota's father came out. He said, ―
雪は降りつづいていた
とうとう お父さんが出てきて言ったんだ
"You win, Shota."
「翔太には かなわないな」って
We were very, very happy.
And Shota gave me a name.
すごくうれしかった
そして 翔太は ぼくに名前をくれたんだ
きみは耳が茶色と白だから チャロだ
チャロ どう？
I was excited. I had a name!
うれしかった ぼくにも名前がある！
I barked! Shota laughed, too....
Right? ...Shota?
ワンワンほえたよ！ 翔太も笑ってた…
そうだったよね？
あれ・・・いない！翔太！ショウターッ・・・！
Charo wakes up.
夢から覚めたチャロ
He is at Dread's nest in New York.
そこはニューヨーク ドレッドのねぐらでした

he can go back to Japan by boat?

Exactly. You hop onto the right boat,
cross the ocean, and you'll be in Japan.

the three dogs get to where the river flows.

where the big white boat is staying.
大きな白い船が停泊している桟橋へ 走っていきました。
Bingo! The sign says "sushi."
It's got to be a Japanese boat.
ビンゴ！ 「すし｣って書いてあるわ
絶対に 日本の船よ
Hey, Charo, see that terrace?
Go up there and jump.
おいチャロ あのテラスが見えるか？
あそこに上って 船へ跳ぶんだ
From there? It's...high.
あそこから？ 高いよ

大したことない
Just make sure you're running fast enough
when you jump.
思いきり走って 跳べば 大丈夫だ

Okay, I'll bark and make a scene
so nobody will notice when you jump.

Margherita makes sure Charo gets
to the terrace...and starts to bark.
チャロが テラスに着いたのを 確かめると
マルゲリータは ほえ出しました

What is it? Get out of here, crazy dog!
なんだ？ あっちへ行け 変な犬だなっ！
Margherita keeps barking
and gets everyone's attention.
マルゲリータは ほえてほえて
みんなの注意を 引きつけます
Charo, now jump!
チャロ 今だ！ 跳べっ！
Yes. Arf!
うん ワン！
Charo makes a long jump.
宙を飛ぶチャロ 大きく 大きく
He falls onto the top deck
near the stern of the boat.
そして 船尾近くに ドサリと落ちました。
Good job!
いいぞ！
Just then, with a loud whistle,
the boat starts to leave.
そのとき 汽笛が鳴り響き 船が動き出しました
Goodbye, Margherita. Goodbye, Dread
