リトル・チャロ (28) Insecurity チャロの不安、A Promise 約束 英語／日本語訳

今回は10月15日PM1:35～1:45と、10月16日AM6:35～6:45放送の
「リトル・チャロ」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。

撮影中に起きた事故
イチローが大けがをしてしまいました

Shota’s father Ichiro was hurt trying to protect Charo.
Now he is in a hospital near Central Park.
翔太の父親・イチローは― チャロを助けようとして ケガをしてしまいました
今は セントラルパーク近くの病院にいます
Ichiro, are you okay?
イチロー 大丈夫？
Arf, arf. Papa.
パパ…
I’m sorry everybody.
It looks like I took a pretty bad hit.
I need to go back to Japan for more test.
すまない みんな 打ち所が悪かったみたいだ
日本で精密検査を受けなきゃならない
Really?
えっ？
Oh, no.
そんな
That’s terrible.
そりゃ大変だ
Go back to Japan?
日本に？
Tomoko, I’m really sorry. Can you find another cameraman?
トモコ 申し訳ない 別のカメラマンを 探してくれないか？
It's okay. I will. You just get well soon.
分かったわ 心配しないで 早くよくなってね
Two days later, Ichiro is leaving for Japan.
２日後 イチローは 日本へと旅立ちます
Take care of Charo for me.
チャロのことを よろしく頼む

任せておいて
Charo, don’t worry. It's not your fault. Good luck.
チャロ お前のせいじゃない 気にしないで がんばれよ
Papa, wait. Don’t leave me. Papa.
パパ 待って！ 置いていかないで！
The next morning, a new cameraman
comes to the filming location.
翌朝 新しいカメラマンが やって来ました
I’m Michael. Nice to meet you.
マイケルだ よろしくな！
Nice to meet you, too. This is Charo.
よろしく これがチャロよ
That’s a small dog. Oh, well. Let's do this thing.
うわぁ 小さな犬だなあ まぁ がんばっていこうぜ！
The filming begins with the new cameraman.
新しいカメラマンとの撮影が 始まりました
Scene 22. Take 1. Charo walks happily. Got it?
Ready. Action.
シーン22 テイク 1 チャロが元気に歩くシーンよ いい？
よーい… アクション！
The scene starts, but Charo doesn’t move.
撮影が始まりましたが チャロは動きません
Cut.
カットー！
Charo, what's wrong?
チャロ どうしたの？
Your dog isn’t very motivated.
Tomoko, where did you find this thing?
やる気のない犬だなあ
トモコ どこから連れてきたんだい？
He's not usually like this.
ふだんは こうじゃないのよ
His owner Ichiro just left for Japan.
Maybe he's in shock.
イチローが日本に帰っちゃったのよ
やっぱり ショックなんじゃないかしら
Looks like we're not going to get much shooting done today.
今日の撮影は難しそうね
Charo, are you okay? This isn’t like you.
チャロ 大丈夫？ あなたらしくないわよ…
Papa got hurt because of me.
Shota will be angry. Shota will hate me…I…I
パパをケガさせてしまって…
翔太に来られるかもしれない… 翔太に嫌われたら… 僕… 僕…
Where did you come from?
Well, I've got to go to soccer practice.
Go on home, boy. Bye-bye.
どこから来たの？
僕 サッカーの練習に 行かないといけないんだ
おうちにお帰り じゃあね
What if Shota doesn’t come to get me?
どうしよう 翔太が迎えに来なかったら…
Charo.
チャロ…
Just then, Eight shows up.
そこにエイトが現れました
Eight.
エイト！
What's the matter, Charo?
You look kind of down. Something wrong?
どうしたチャロ
元気がないな 何かあったのか？
As a matter of fact, Charo fell asleep on the set.
実はね チャロが 撮影現場で眠っちゃって…
Tonko tells Eight all that happened.
トンコは これまでのいきさつを話しました
Really? I’m sorry to hear that.
そうか そんなことがあったのか
I’m so scared that Shota will forget me.
翔太が僕を忘れるなんて… そんな怖いことが起こったら…
Shota is very important to you, isn’t he?
お前にとって 翔太は大切な人なんだな
Yes. Shota found me. He saved me.
I might have died without him.
うん 翔太は僕を拾ってくれた 命の恩人なんだ
翔太がいなければ 僕 死んでいたかもしれない
Here…have a sausage.

Shota lost his mother, too. We were both so lonely.
He used to tell me everything.
翔太もお母さんを亡くしていたんだ ２人とも寂しかった

We are best friends.
If Shota forgot me, I don’t know what I would do.

What?

The old dog Eight takes Charo to an apartment in the city.
チャロがエイトに連れられてきたのは 街なかのアパートでした

My home.
俺のウチだ
Oh, my, what a cute visitor we have today.
あら かわいいお客さんね！

たしか チャロといったわね？
Welcome, Charo. Make yourself at home.
いらっしゃい ゆっくりしていってね
I live here with Karen.
俺はここで カレンと暮らしているんだ
The walls of the apartment are covered
with dozens of photographs.
部屋に入ると 壁一面に写真が飾られていました
Wow. So many pictures.
うわぁ！ 写真がいっぱい！
They are all from Africa.
全部 アフリカで撮った写真だ
Africa? Where is that?
アフリカ？ それ どこにあるの？
Very far away. It's where I first met Karen.
アフリカは とても遠い 俺とカレンが出会った場所だ
It was a hot summer about ten years ago.
I lived in a small village in a poor country in Africa.
かれこれ10年ほど前の 暑い夏のことだった…
俺がいたのは アフリカの中でも 貧しい国の小さな村だった
Karen was a volunteer from an international organization.
She came to the village to help the children there.
カレンは 海外支援のボランティアとして―
その村に来て 子どもたちのために 働いていた
Wow.
すごーい
Karen’s dream was to build the very first school in our village.
カレンの夢は 村で初めての 学校を建てることだった
She worked very hard day and night for the children.
子どもたちのために 毎日 夜遅くまで働いていた
One day, news came from America.
Karen’s husband, Eizaburo, was very sick.
そんなある日 アメリカから知らせが届いた
カレンの夫・英三郎が重病だというんだ
Sick?
重病？
Everyone told Karen she should go home. But she did not.
誰もがカレンに アメリカに戻るよう勧めた しかし カレンは帰らなかった
Why not?
どうして？
She had made a promise to Eizaburo.
英三郎との約束だよ
A promise?
約束？
Karen, if you go, finish what you start.
Then come back to me.
カレン 行くからには やり遂げてから帰ってこいよ
Of course I will.
もちろん そのつもりよ
Even when far away, I'll always be with you.
どんなに遠く離れていても 僕たちはいつも一緒だよ
Thank you, honey.
ありがとう
Karen stayed with us in Africa.
カレンは アフリカに残った
Soon, news come of Eizaburo’s death.
それから間もなく 英三郎の死の知らせがきたよ
Karen cried and cried.
But three days later, a letter arrived from Eizaburo.
He had written it on his deathbed.
カレンは ずっと泣いていた
しかし その３日後 英三郎からの手紙が届いたんだ
死の床で書いたものだった
What did it say?
何て書いてあったの？
Karen, I know you will finish what you started in Africa.
I believe in you.
カレン 君ならアフリカで やり遂げられる 僕は信じているよ

That is the school Karen built.
この写真を見てみろ カレンが建てた学校だ
Everyone is smiling.
みんな笑ってる
Yes. Karen, too. She was so happy.
The school was built. The children were happy.
And, above all, Eizaburo had believe in her,
and she had kept her promise to him.
カレンも幸せそうだったよ
学校が出来たこと 子どもたちの笑顔を見られたこと
何より 自分を信じてくれた 英三郎おの約束を 果たせたことにな
Charo, some people feel far away even when
they are standing right next to you.
チャロ 一緒にいても 心が離れている人もいれば―
Other people believe in each other and their hearts
are always together even when far away.
遠く離れていても 心が通じ合って 信じ合える人もいる
You don’t believe in Shota?
お前は 翔太を信じられないのか？
I want to believe.... but.... but....
信じたいよ… でも… でも…
Listen closely, Charo.
When you love someone, the question is not
whether that person believe in you.
いいか チャロ 人を愛するということはな―
相手が自分を信じているかを 確かめることではない
The question is ‘’Do you believe in that person?’
自分が 相手を信じることだ
自分が… 信じる…？
Charo. if you believe in Shota, that is all that matters.
チャロ 肝心なのは お前が翔太を信じられるかだ
Charo, even when far away, I'll always believe in you.
チャロ 離れていても いつも信じてるよ
Yes. yes, I believe in Shota.
うん そうだね 僕は翔太を信じてる！

Charo lifts his chin, ready to go on again.
チャロは またしっかりと 前を向いて 歩き出すのでした
