こんにちは。トモキ86です。
今回は8月20日PM1:40～1:50と、8月21日AM6:35～6:45放送の
「リトル・チャロ」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。
宜しくお願いします。

あらすじ：これまでのリトル・チャロ
アンドーラのおかげで チャロの生い立ちを知ったトモコ
チャロとトモコは お互い夢に向かって頑張ることを 誓うのでした

Louis has an audition for a Broadway show
and Jane decides to take Charo to the theater district with them.
ルイのオーディションの日
ジェーンはブロードウェイヘ チャロも連れていくことにしました
Charo is surprised. It is new territory for him.
チャロはびっくり 初めて足を踏み入れる場所です
Many people! Many signs!
人がいっぱい！ 看板もいっぱい！
You bet! And someday, we'll be seeing Tomoko's name up there.
そりゃそうさ！ トモコの名前もそのうち看板にのるさ
Tomoko's?
トモコの？
Yup! She's got talent. I can tell....
And speak of the devil!
そうさ！ トモコには才能がある ぼくにはわかる
おっと うわさをすれば影だな
Across the street, there's Tomoko.
She's talking to somebody.
通りの向こうで トモコが誰かと話をしています
I know this is outrageous, but please.
If this doesn't work out,
I'll never be bothering you again. Please, sir!
ムチャはわかってます お願いします！
二度とご迷惑はかけませんから！

The man grabs a cab and leaves.
Jane runs over to Tomoko, who is still standing there.
男はタクシーで去ります ぼうっと立っているトモコのところヘジェーンが駆けより―
Tomoko! That was intense! Who was that?
トモコ！ やったじゃない 誰なの あの人？
Jane! Um, he's the manager of Mr. Gesner Bernhardt,
my favorite stage director.
ジェーン！ 私が大好きな演出家 ゲスナー･バーンハートのマネージャーよ
His play is starting next month and they've
flown in from Germany to check things out.
You know, The Red Star.
来月 芝居が始まるので ドイツから来て いろいろ確認してるんだって
「赤い星」知ってるよね
Sure!
もちろん！
I found out that Mr. Bernhardt is looking for
a new script for his next play, so...
バーンハートさんが その次の脚本を探してるってわかったので…
Wow! So this might be the chance of your life!
すごい！ じゃ 人生のビッグ･チャンスね！
I don't know, but... Hey, Charo!
What are you doing here?
どうかなあ… あら チャロじゃない！ どうしてここに？
Oh, Louis seemed to want him around, so...
Whoops, we're late!
Tomoko, do you mind taking him with you?
ルイがにいっしょに来てほしそうで… あら もう行かなくちゃ
チャロをお願いできる？
Of course not
うん！
Handing Charo over to Tomoko,
Jane leaves with Louis for the audition.
チャロをトモコに預けると ジェーンはルイとオーディションへ
Gee...my knees are still shaking....
But I really feel good about myself.

Hey, do you want to see my favorite theater?
It's where The Red Star will be performed.
I have a janitor friend who'll let me in.

係のおじさんと知り合いだから 入れてもらえるんだ
They get to an old but magnificent theater.
Tomoko talks to an old man,
and enters the theater with Charo.
古くて壮麗な劇場
トモコはおじさんに話をつけ チャロと劇場の中へ
This is where I saw my very first show with Mom and Dad.
It was fabulous! We laughed, we cried....
I never knew there could be anything so special.
パパとママと 初めてのお芝居を見たのがここ
それはすばらしかった 笑って泣いて こんな世界があるなんて衝撃だったよ
But...that was the first and the last show
that I ever saw with my dad.
And that was when I decided to become a playwright!
でも それがパパといっしょに見た 最初で最後のショーだったわけ
あのとき 私は劇作家になるって決めたんだ

いま 「私ならできる」って言ったの？

Charo is wishing he could do something,
anything to help make her dream come true.
After all, she is the one who saved his life.

One day, Charo is passing by a small bookshop
near Broadway and sees...
チャロがブロードウェイの近くで 小さな書店の前を通りすぎると―
Sirius!
シリウスだ！
Charo! Long time no see!
チャロ！ 久しぶりだな！
Are you on a stakeout?
張り込みなの？
No, no. I work here as a...watchdog, so to speak.
いや 違うよ ここで働いてるんだ…番犬ってところだな
Watchdog...?
番犬？
You know how I was sent away
for re-training, right?
再訓練に出されたのは知ってるよね
But sometimes, things just don't work out right.
Since then, I worked so hard
to win back Catherine's trust.
私は必死に信用を取り戻そうとした
でも どうしてもダメなときもあるのさ
I blew it, every time I was given a chance.
So here I am, nice and retired.
チャンスのたびにヘマをやらかしてね
それで 引退ってことになったんだ

At that moment, a customer comes out,
together with a woman.
そのとき お客さんと女の人が出てきました

Saying so, Catherine goes back into the shop.
そう言って キャサリンは 店に戻っていきました
Did Catherine quit, too?
キャサリンも辞めたの？
Yes. Her parents decided to retire
so Catherine took over their bookshop.
She always wanted to. She loves books.
両親が引退することにしたんで キャサリンが本屋を継いだのさ
長年の願いだったんだよ 本が大好きなもんでね
I thought I would never see her again.
But she took me in,
the moment my retirement was announced....
二度とキャサリンに会えないのかと思った
でも 彼女は私の引退が決まると すぐに引き取ってくれたんだ
You know...Catherine and I,
we've been through a lot together.
キャサリンと私は いっしょにいろいろ乗り越えた
And I always thought that she loved me
as a competent police dog ―

in case something happened to him.

Sirius leads Charo into the bookshop
and stops in front of a shelf.
シリウスはチャロを店に連れていき ある書棚の前で立ち止まりました
See? All of these books are about Japan.
いいかい ここにあるのは すべて日本についての本だ
Ahem! Japan is located in the Pacific Ocean,
some 6,000 miles west of California.
日本は太平洋に位置し カリフォルニアの西方 約6,000マイル
Recent popular dog types are
dachshunds, chihuahuas, poodles...

Sirius!
シリウス！
What?
え？
You've studied all this for me?
それ全部勉強したの ぼくのために？
Sure! I mean, if I am to help you get back,
I need to know about your country, don't I?
そうさ！ きみの帰国を助けるなら
きみの国のことを知る必要があるだろ？
Yes! Thank you, Sirius!
うん！ ありがとう シリウス！
Sirius's help may not be...well..."practical,"
but it was certainly out of good will.
And that was enough to make Charo happy.
シリウスの応援は「実用的」ではないようですが―
こちらを思ってくれていることは間違いありません
それだけでじゅうぶん チャロの気持ちは明るくなるのでした
