こんにちは。トモキ86です。
今回は8月13日PM1:40～1:50と、8月14日AM6:35～6:45放送の
「リトル・チャロ」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。

街角で倒れていたところをトモコに救われたチャロ
トモコの家には陽気なルームメイトがいました

One weekend, Tomoko's roommate, Jane,
and several others are preparing for a party.
週末 ルームメイトのジェーンと仲間たちが
パーティーの準備をしています
Louis is watching them with a big smile.
ルイはそれを見ながら うきうき顔です
What's going on?
これ なんなの？
Don't you know? It's Tomoko's birthday today.
She's sweet 19! We're going to have a surprise party.
知らないのかい？ 今日はトモコの誕生日だよ
花の19歳さ！ で サプライズ･パーティーってわけさ
Really!?
わぁ ホントに!?
They are all set. Jane turns off the lights and hides.
準備完了 ジェーンが明かりを消して隠れました
Tomoko comes back, turns on the lights and...
トモコが帰ってきて 明かりをつけると…
Surprise! Happy birthday!
サプラーイズ！ お誕生日おめでとう！
What? Oh, gosh! Thank you...thank you, guys!
わあっ すごい ありがとう みんな！
It's party time. Everyone seems so happy.
They start to hand their presents to the birthday girl.
パーティーの始まり！ みんな楽しそう
そしてトモコヘのプレゼントタイムです
One of them takes notice of what Jane has brought.
１人がジェーンのプレゼントに 目をとめました
A bundle of copy paper?
コピー用紙の束かい？
Yeah. Tomoko uses a whole lot of it
to print out her scenarios, so...
トモコって脚本を印刷するのに すごい枚数を使うのよ だから…
Oh, thank you, Jane. And look!
There's a red star at the corner of...
every sheet! Wow, I love this!
ありがとう ジェーン わあ 見て！
全部 隅に赤い星がついてる！ これはステキね！
Needless to say, The Red Star is the
latest work of Tomoko's favorite stage director.

By the way, did you guys know that
Tomoko's father happens to be
the famous Japanese actor, Ken Matsumoto?
ところで トモコのパパが有名な日本人俳優の
ケン･マツモトだって知ってた？

Yeah. But my parents were divorced when I was little....
I never dreamed that he would be starring in a Hollywood movie.
ええ でも私が小さいときに 両親は離婚したんだ
そのパパが まさかハリウッド映画に 出演するようになるなんて
Late at night, the last guests leave.
Tomoko is now back in her room.
パーティーが終わったのは夜遅く トモコはようやく部屋に戻ります
Birthdays are really strange. My parents...
they were divorced exactly 10 years ago, on my ninth birthday.
So it's a happy occasion, sure... but a sad one, too....
誕生日って なんか妙な感じ ちょうど10年前 ９歳の誕生日に両親は離婚したの
だからハッピーな日だけど…悲しい日でもあるんだ

When my dad had to leave, he smiled and said,
"We'll see each other again, Tomoko. I'll always be with you."
パパが家を出て行くとき 笑って言ったの

でも あれから一度も会ってない

Tomoko looks at Charo the way she would
look at a reliable human friend.
Charo loves her deep, hazel-colored eyes
that show how pure and honest she is.
トモコはチャロをまるで 頼れる友だちのように見つめました
そんなトモコの瞳が チャロは大好き 純粋で正直な心が伝わってきます

One Sunday morning, Charo wakes up
to find Tomoko staring hard at him.
Suddenly, Tomoko picks him up
and carries him to the bed.
日曜日の朝 チャロが起きると トモコが大まじめに見つめています
突然 トモコはチャロを ベッドまで抱きかかえていきました
Charo, are you from Japan?
Your Japanese owner... Is his name...Shota?
チャロは日本から来たの？
きみの日本の飼い主は 翔太って名前なの？
Yes! How come you know? Arf!
そうだよ！ どうして知ってるの？
Oh, this is insane.
そんな ばかなこと
Tomoko chuckles to herself.
トモコはくすくす笑います
You see, I had this weird dream last night.
There was an old woman who called herself...Andorra!
She said you were from Japan, and...
Oh, forget it. It's just a dream.
ゆうべ 変な夢を見たの アンドーラっておばあさんが出てきて…
チャロは日本から来たって言うの それで… やめましょ ただの夢だから
Andorra!? She appeared in your dream?

Arf arf arf! Charo barks hard.
チャロは懸命にほえました
Hmm.... Okay, Charo. If you understand me, bark twice.
じゃあ 私の言葉がわかるなら ２回ほえてみて
Half jokingly, Tomoko is trying to see
if Charo is really able to communicate with her.
半ば冗談のつもりで トモコはチャロと
コミュニケーションができるのか試しました

I want to go back to Shota. Arf arf!

Tomoko grabs a piece of paper and a pencil...
and starts to draw a picture.
She shows it to Charo.
トモコは紙と鉛筆をつかみ 絵を描きはじめました
描き上げた絵をチャロに見せると―

チャロ これがドレッドね？

I miss him.... I miss him so much....
ぼく 寂しいよ ドレッドが恋しいよ
He passed away recently....
ついこのあいだ… だったのね

Tomoko gently hugs him and strokes him.
トモコはそっとチャロを抱きしめて 優しくなでました
It's okay, Charo.
I understand what you've been through.
いいんだよ どんな思いをしてきたか よくわかるよ
Dread's gone, and you're trying to
get back to Japan...right?
ドレツドは亡くなってしまって きみは日本に行こうとしてるのね
I want to go home. I want to go back to Shota!
帰りたいよ 翔太のとこに帰りたいよ！
Tomoko is moved.
トモコは心を動かされました

to a faraway country like Japan....
And I'm just whining over my dream without even trying!

I'm ashamed of myself. Okay, Charo,
we both have our dreams, we both try hard.
なんだか自分が恥ずかしい よしチャロ
