「リトル・チャロ」から英語を学んでいきたいと思います。

撮影中に怪我をしたミネルバ
トモコたちは 動物園での撮影が できなくなってしまいました

at the window of Tomoko’s apartment.
トモコのアパートの窓辺で ミネルバとトンコが話しています
I’m so sorry. You can't shoot in the zoo anymore.

ゴメンよ オイラのせいで 動物園で撮影ができなくなって

そんなに落ち込まないで 終わったことは しょうがないわ
Hey, how did you get out of the zoo?
それより どうやって動物園から抜け出したの？

オイラは 鍵がなくても なんでも開けられるのさ！

本当？
Look, Tonko. I have an idea.
なぁトンコ 提案があるんだ

Meanwhile, in the living room,
Tomoko and Yoko are discussing the shoot.

You know my mother runs a group home,
the Aster Home.
There is a big picture of two lions on the wall there.
ライオンの大きな写真が飾ってあるの

ライオンの写真？
Yeah. It's an old picture my grandmother took
when she was in Africa.
ええ 私のおばあちゃんが アフリカで撮ったものなんだって
Your grandmother. That’s Karen.
トモコのおばあちゃん！ カレンのことだ！
And there's a story about those lions.
そのライオンには逸話があるの
Really? Tell me.
へえ どんな？
In the picture, there is a big lion
standing together with his little son.
写真には 大きなライオンの横に
子どものライオンが写っているの
And they say there was a fire in the savanna.
That little lion was trapped all alone in the fire.
ある日 サバンナで山火事があってね―
子どものライオンは 火の中に取り残されちゃったんだって
What happened?
どうなったの？
There were flames all around, no chance of escape.
辺り一面 炎に包まれ このままでは 焼け死んでしまう
And then the daddy lion appeared.
He had come to rescue his son.
そのとき お父さんライオンが わが子を助けに現れたのよ

本当に？
The daddy lion ran in, grabbed the little lion in his mouth,
and jumped over the fire to safety. He saved his son.
火の海に飛び込んで 子どもをくわえると 炎を飛び超えた
そして わが子を救ったのよ
That’s amazing.
すごーい！
Even now, my mother tells this story
to the kids at the Aster.
この話は 今でもママが 子どもたちに話しているわ
Lions will do anything to protect their children.
They will fight any enemy, brave any danger,
risk their lives even.
ライオンは わが子を助けるためなら どんなことでもするの
どんな敵でも どんなに危険でも 命をかけて わが子を守る
That’s the kind of animal they are.
ライオンは そういう動物なのよ
That’s so cool.
I’m going to be a lion when I grow up.

Lions are like heroes to the kids at the Aster.
アスターの子どもたちにとって ライオンはヒーローなのよ

We need a lion in the movie.
なるほどね だからライオンを映画に出したいのね
We should ask another zoo for help.
ほかの動物園にも頼んでみましょう
Yeah, it might take some time, though.
そうね ちょっと時間がかかるかもしれないけど
That’s okay. We will wait as long as it takes.
大丈夫よ 時間はたっぷりあるわ
Karen can't. Her surgery is coming up.
カレンには時間がないんだ！ もうすぐ手術なんだ
We have to finish the film.
それまでに映画を完成させないと！
A lion, a lion. I've got to do something.

Charo rushes out of the apartment
and into the city in search of a lion.
チャロはアパートを飛び出し 街を駆け回ります

He is looking for a lion to be in a movie.
チャロは 映画に出演してくれるライオンを探して―
ニューヨークの街を走り回ります
Excuse me. Hi, I’m Charo.
Do you know where I can find a lion?
あの 僕はチャロ どこかにライオンはいませんか？
A lion? You’ve lost a lion?
Or perhaps you’ve lost your mind?
ライオン？ ライオンがいなくなったの？
寝ぼけてるの？
Try the savanna, kid. Now get out of here.
サバンナに行って探しな あっち行け！
Waaa.
A lion? Of course I know where you can find one.
ライオン？ 当然 どこにいるか知ってるよ
I knew you would. Where?
さすがネストル！ どこ？
In front of the city library near Times Square.
There are two lions sitting by the steps.
タイムズスクエア近くの 図書館さ
階段の脇に ２頭座っているよ

やった！ ありがとう！
They are the most famous lions in the city.
その２頭は ニューヨークでも いちばん有名なライオンで…
Ah? Gone already?
あれ？ もう行っちゃったの？
Meanwhile, back in the apartment.
そのころ トモコのアパートでは…
None of these zoos will work.
撮影に適した動物園は なさそうねえ
Tomoko, it's late. Why don’t you call it a night.
トモコ 今夜はもう遅いわ 明日にしたら？
I will .. I just want to look a little more.
うん… もう少しだけ 頑張ってみるわ
Charo arrives at the library, but he is in for a surprise.
チャロは 図書館に到着しました しかし 驚くべきことに…
The lions are statues? Oh Nestor.
ライオンの… 石像？ ネストルったらぁ
Charo leaves the library to keep looking for a lion.
Soon it starts to rain.
チャロは ライオンを探して 再び歩き始めます
やがて雨が降り出しました
I want to see her film more than anything.
私は あの子の映画を どうしてもこの目で見たいのよ

映画のために ライオンを見つけなきゃ

The sun is coming up.
Tired and hungry, Charo is feeling faint.
やがて 夜が明けてきました
疲れと空腹で チャロは意識がもうろうとしています
Then he remembers Shota’s words.
そのとき チャロは翔太の言葉を思い出しました
Charo, sometimes you feel down.
Sometimes it seems your dreams will never come true, right?
チャロ 夢をかなえたくても 落ち込んで くじけそうになることがあるでしょう？
At times like that, you should remember
the most important person in the world to you.
Say that person’s name three times.
そんなときには いちばん大切な人を思い出して―
その名前を３回唱えてごらん
Then somehow, the way ahead will be shown to you.

そうすれば 不思議な力が働いて 道が開けるんだって
お母さんから教わったんだ

Charo says Shota’s name three times,
but nothing happens.
チャロは 翔太の名前を３回唱えました
しかし 何も起こりません
It didn’t work.

Just then, Charo hears children’s voices from far away.
そのとき 遠くから 子どもたちの声が聞こえてきました
Hey. The circus. The circus is here.
サーカスだ！ サーカスがやって来るぞ！
Awesome. They have elephants. Let's go.
すっごーい！ 象もいるよ！ 見に行こうよ！
How about lions?
ライオンは？
Lions, too.
ライオンだっているさ！
Lions?
ライオン？
Out of nowhere, a single piece of paper
flutters through the air.
どこからともなく １枚の紙切れが舞い落ちてきました
What's this?
なんだろう？
Back at the apartment, Tomoko is still at her computer.
But her eyes are closed.
そのころアパートでは トモコがパソコンの前で うとうとしていました
I must have fallen asleep.
眠っちゃってたのね
Charo rushes into the room with a flier in his mouth.
そこへ チラシをくわえたチャロが 飛び込んできます
Tomoko.
トモコ！
Charo? what is it, boy?
チャロ？ どうしたの？
Look.
これ見て！
What's this? A circus?
何これ？ サーカス？
The flier has pictures of animals
and says circus in big letters.
チラシには たくさんの動物
そして「サーカス」の大きな文字が躍っていました
